What is Pilates?
Pilates is a safe, sensible exercise
system that will help you look and
feel your very best. Regardless of
age or condition, it can work for
you. Pilates builds strength
without excess bulk, creating a
sleek, toned body. Pilates teaches
body awareness, good posture,
and simple, graceful movements.
The Pilates Method was created
around the 1940's by Joseph
Pilates. IM=X Pilates updated the
traditional program in the 1990s.
The exercise sequences of both
programs are similar, but the
scientific principles and education
behind IM=X is based on the
research of the last decade. We
now know that low impact muscle
toning is healthier for the joints,
and the spine stabilization system
needs to be aligned and fit. The
IM=X Pilates Program takes a
more muscle building approach
and includes many different
class formats. Find out more about IM=X at http://www.imxpilates.net.
Our Studio
Open since 2001, the Pilates Studio
was the first full-service Pilates
facility in Indianapolis. The Studio
was also the first one to use the
IM=X method in the Midwest.
Dora Satterthwaite, owner and
master trainer, works alongside
fourteen other IM=X certified
trainers to provide personalized
and effective workouts.
Safe Workouts
No other exercise system is so
gentle while giving your body a
challenging workout. Pilates
elongates and strengthens the
muscles, developing elasticity and
mobility, building a body with
balanced and flexible muscles,
less likely to be injured.
Improved Abdominals
Pilates exercises develop and
strengthen core muscles: the
abdomen, back, and pelvis.
Strengthening the core will not
only tighten the abs to create a
sleek, toned physique, but it will
also support the spine from the
base, alleviating lower back pain
and fatigue.
